MARIKO KONDO | NEW YORK ENGLISH CENTER

Tell us about yourself and where you’re from.
My name is Mariko, and I’m from Japan. I’ve been in New York City for a little while, I love it here. It’s one of the most interesting cities I’ve visited in the world.

What do you like most about living and studying in New York City?
New York is a one-of-a-kind city because you get a chance to meet other people from all over the world, living in one big city. There’s a real international vibe you get from New York City, which I like a great deal.

Was there any particular reason why you decided to come to New York City to study?
I came to New York because I knew that once I improved my English writing skills, I could find a lot of opportunity here. As the song goes, ‘If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere…’. This is true, I think.

Tell us why you chose New York English Center?
At first, I liked the convenient location. After I started my classes, I realized that each class doesn’t have 20 students or more sitting in a room with one teacher, like so many schools here. Here, the classes are smaller, so I am able to learn a lot more in a shorter amount of time.

Do you feel like courses at New York English Center have helped you? Do you notice any progress in your language skills?
Yes, the courses here have helped me a lot. I’m studying for the TOEFL, and I’m going to academic writing classes. I’m learning a lot more about academic language and sentence structure that I’ve ever learned at the other schools I’ve visited.

What would you say to potential students of New York English Center?
You’ll love the smaller study groups and individualized attention you get here. You learn more about the language here.

What are your plans after leaving N.Y.E.C.? Do you plan to continue studying?
I’m looking for a college to attend. I’m going to get help with applying for college and continue to study further.
